Miriam Coronel Ferrer

Co-Founder, Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators

Miriam Coronel Ferrer is co-founder of the Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators. A former professor of political science at the University of the Philippines, she chaired the government panel that negotiated and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. From 2018-2021, she was a member of the United Nations’ Standby Team of Senior Mediators where she provided mediation support to UN missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Maldives, Kosovo, Georgia and Southeast Asia among others. She received the 2023 Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation’s Women in Peacebuilding Pioneer Award and the 2015 Hillary Rodham Clinton Award for Advancing Women in Peace and Security. An author of several books and journal articles on Philippine and Southeast Asian politics, Ferrer has served as visiting professor in several Asian universities.
