Watch the livestream of this panel on 17 April from 15:30- 17:00 CEST.
Peacemakers are often sceptical about engaging with social movements. They may be worried about jeopardising their impartiality, fear that protest will lead to destabilisation or may be lacking a clear contact person to address. Yet, peaceful protest movements have in the past successfully contributed to effective peacemaking, such as through increased leverage and relevant inclusion.
Based on experiences from Mali and Sudan, and against the current realities of growing multipolarity, this panel will explore concrete steps to deal with trade-offs and challenges of including social movements in peacemaking efforts.
